The Sky was on Fire
Slave Lake's Story of Disaster

The Sky was on Fire: Slave Lake's Story of Disaster, Exodus and New Beginnings is a 300 page full colour hardcover book written by the people of Slave Lake.

In words and photos, it details the experiences of dozens of people during the May 2011 wildfires. Through the words and photos of local residents, first responders, and evacuation centre volunteers, the book celebrates the acts of unsung heroes who, when tested by fate, found courage and compassion.  In the days and months that followed the fire, they demonstrated resiliency, resourcefulness and a truly northern spirit.
